Evacuation Day Family Program

March 17, 2026, is the 250th anniversary of Evacuation Day. To mark the occasion, visit Pierce House and learn about Henry Knox, an often-forgotten hero of the American Revolution. Knox accomplished a daring and seemingly impossible feat: moving heavy cannons nearly 300 miles in the dead of winter from upstate New York to Dorchester Heights, allowing the Americans to take control of Boston and forcing the British to evacuate the city. This drop-in style program allows families to move from station to station at their own pace, where they can: - Read excerpts from the journal of Colonel Samuel Pierce Jr., who helped build the fortifications - Write with a quill pen, just as people did in the eighteenth century - Dress in (reproduction) period clothing - Make a paper tricorn hat like those worn by American soldiers - “Fire” an Alka-Seltzer cannon Huzzah!
